53rd Annual Joye Reunion 2008

This year's Joye reunion was held on Sunday, August 31st at Ebenezer Methodist Church (Muddy Creek) in Hemingway, SC. Now although I do not have the minutes at hand, I can give my perspective on the reunion and share some photos that I took while there.

The attendance unfortunately was low this year. It was brought up during the meeting and hopefully next year there will be a greater turnout.

The food was ofcourse delicious...we've got some wonderful cooks in our family! And speaking of food, this year we are working on creating a family cookbook to have available at next year's reunion. However, we need your help in creating one. We can't create a cookbook without your recipes. The deadline for recipe submission is June 15th. Please note on your recipe submission who you are a descendant of, any pictures or history about where the recipe came from...especially if it's from a family member who is no longer with us. You may send recipes to Teresa Gillespie by email at cooking4U@ymail.com or by mail to 102 Drew Circle; Smithsburg MD 21783.

Freddie Joye, Sr. and his daughter Teresa Gillespie will be planning the 54th Annual Reunion and because they are not local to the area, help will be needed. Please contact them if you are interested. Family is important and knowing the roots from where we came from to pass on to generations to come is priceless. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please let them be known. Feel free to post a comment on the site. All suggestions/ideas will be considered.

A few ideas so far are to make the reunion a two day celebration...Saturday and Sunday. Saturday will be the "fun" day with events and games for EVERYONE to include a possible golf tournament and then Sunday will be the dinner, meeting and awards with ofcourse a raffle and a few ice breakers. We're trying to bring the reunion back to life and make it as much fun as possible so please let everyone in your family branches know so we can have a successful 54th reunion.

Pass this site info on so we can get as many family members involved as possible.
